What is Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)?

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is currently the fastest growing sport in America. Known for its intense competition and remarkable athleticism, the sport is winning an increasingly large following and has begun to attract some significant positive press.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is nothing new, it actually has a rich history that dates back to the Olympic Games in Athens. Nearly 80 years ago, a Brazilian form of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), known as Vale Tudo began to spark strong interest in the sport.

In 1993, the UFC organization brought Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) to the United States. The goal was to find the "Ultimate Fighting Champion." This created tournament style events, while taking the best athletes from various disciplines of the Martial Arts and combatives. Karate, JiuJitsu, Judo, Sambo, wrestling, boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, etc..
.
The sport became instantly popular but had to develop acceptable rules in order for it to become the legalized and widely accepted sporting event it has since become.

Interesting facts:

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is one of the most regulated sports in the world. The UFC and other promotions must meet some of the toughest guidelines there are and have ever been in professional sports.

Current Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Athletes are some of the best in the world. The new breed is highly conditioned and cross trained in multiple disciplines. Frequently, they spend years in each discipline before they put it together in a competitive arena.

Over 80% of UFC Athletes hold college degrees. Similar to regular Martial Arts training, most people that reach a higher level of achievement are well educated and are involved in on-going educational development.

Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is widely considered to be safer than boxing and football. Most Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fights are stopped much sooner than a professional boxing match and very few ever sustain serious head or spine injuries that are common in football. The most serious injuries tend to be cuts that require stitches but rarely cause permanent damage.

As a student of Martial Arts Principles, Inc., what does all this mean to you?

For many years, Sensei Paul, along with our other Sensei's have been training in multiple disciplines. Sensei Paul has trained with many of the best practitioners of Kenpo Karate, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, Combatives and more.

The goal has always been and continues to be, to offer you and our students high quality Mixed Martial Arts training under one roof and for you to get the training you want and need in a safe, clean and friendly environment.

It's safe, fun and exciting. Plus, you'll be a well trained arm chair quarter back the next time you are watching UFC on the tube. You'll be shouting "That guy should have put him in a guard and controlled his posture."

Seriously, for quite a while now, we have been teaching and training multiple styles in our school. Now, it's become more popular and wide spread. We do feel it should be taught and presented in a safe, clean and respectful mannerism.

We believe in the tradition and spirit of the Martial Arts, that it all begins and ends with respect. This is something we hope to always influence!
